O Little Town of Bethlehem is one of the most beloved Christmas carols, especially for Christmas Eve. It always reminds me of singing by candlelight in a little country church, winter coat rustling on the old wooden pews and the evergreen decorations all around the sanctuary. Very happy to share this album of instrumental piano music that was created solely for Advent. I am grateful to all the churches who have been using this as background music, streaming it between services during the season of Advent. This one was a special listener request: “When Morning Gilds the Skies”. It is such a wonderful song to start the day with, looking out a window, over some foggy morning hills, over a bustling city just awakening, or in the middle of a household full of happy voices getting ready for the day. This was also a special listener request - as of the time of publishing there was not a single recording of this hymn on the internet so it was nice to be able to bring it into today's world where it might be a blessing to someone or some churches as they are looking for new-old hymns! Lastly for now, “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” was another special request, and it is really such a beautiful old hymn that is one of the most uplifting of all time! The classic lyrics by Robert Robinson have been sung by believers worldwide for many many years, and I felt it really needed an extra verse so I wrote verse 4 to attempt to wrap the whole song up into one verse of extra praise and focus on God, rather than lingering a little long with too much focus on ourselves and being prone to wander... Let us sing to Him and raise our voices all the louder!

This is the first album I recorded that had vocals on it, and as of this post, churches all around the world have used these recordings and lyric videos of this album for their church services, perhaps when the usual musicians are on holiday or sometimes for special services like funerals and memorial services. So far it is my most popular and best-selling album, particularly the track "Gather Us In", which is a special Celtic-flavoured cover of a popular song in many hymnbooks. The album that started it all! I put this little collection of piano solos up on streaming platforms and then completely abandoned it, and a year or two later I started noticing that it was gaining traction and listeners around the world with precisely zero marketing on my part. Encouraged, I set out to record more hymns and see if I could reach more people who might cherish the old hymns.
